Nylon Or Polyester

Most flags that fly from (for example) aluminum flag poles today are usually produced from nylon or polyester. Dependent on the weather conditions of your area, nylon could be referred to by your flagpole supplier as "outdoor nylon" and polyester as "light weight polyester." Flags or banners , such as historic flags, have been flown from "flagpoles" for decades if not centuries, as a means to signal or identify.

This history of flags takes us back many centuries ago, to the south-eastern area of Asia, where supposedly the very first flag was "invented" according to historic professionals. Flags and banners over the centuries have developed into real practical tools for puposes of identification and signaling on battle grounds, other such locations, seas, camp grounds, residential and commercial properties, government facilities, etc.

One major difference between in- and outdoor flags is the manufacturing material. Banners or flags of smaller sizes that are flown in the outdoors are usually made from nylon, whereas flags that are displayed in indoor environments are produced from light weight polyester.

Polyester is known for some of its advantages over other more natural fabrics, such as its resistance with regards to wrinkles. Some choose to produce products that have a good blend of the two, in other words, polyester fibers are spun together with natural fibers, which is usually not applied for the production of flags.

Polyester in our day is also used for the production of other products such as: bottles, films, boats, auto-parts and wire.

Historic flags are produced from both nylon and polyester. The same applies to U.S.-, state, international and military flags. Custom banners can be produced from both materials. Light weight polyester banners (3x5 ft.) are more cost-effective than banners made from outdoor nylon.

Tasered Brazilian felt safer in Sydney, memorial service hears

The 21-year-old Brazilian who died on a Sydney street last Sunday after being Tasered by police often spoke about how safe he felt in Sydney compared with Brazil, a memorial service heard.

As the rap lyrics ''so what we get drunk, so what we smoke weed, we're just having fun'' played, the family and friends of Roberto "Betinho" Laudisio Curti cried, hugged and threw white and yellow roses off a Bondi cliff into the sea.

He may have been in Australia for only a few months, but almost 100 people gathered at Bondi Beach yesterday afternoon to celebrate his life.

Black Student Defends Confederate Flag

Typically, African-American students across the country are involved in speaking out against the display of the Confederate Flag, but at one South Carolina university, a young Black man sees the flag as a positive symbol and is speaking out in support of his own right to hang it proudly.

"When I look at this flag, I don't see racism. I see respect, Southern pride," 19-year-old Byron Thomas, an African-American student at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, told the Associated Press. "This flag was seen as a communication symbol" during the Civil War.(Inexpensive advertising flag supplier)

Thomas sparked a campus controversy when he decided to display a Confederate Flag in his dorm window, but was asked to remove it by university officials in late November after about two dozen students complained.

Although Thomas initially removed the flag, the school has since sent an email to students and staff stating that "the university cannot and will not prohibit these flags or other symbols that our students choose to display," citing the First Amendment, which prohibits infringing upon freedom of speech. Now, Thomas says he is considering putting the flag back up.

"I've been getting a lot of support from people. My generation is interested in freedom of speech," Thomas said.

The Hidden Messages In The American Flag

Aptly - given its national anthem is about the flag - the Stars and Stripes is a key part of America's identity. It hangs in classrooms and in courtrooms, on state buildings and suburban porches.

It has been the national flag since 1777. And the flag that inspired the anthem was enormous. Measuring 30 by 42 feet (9 x 12.8m), it was raised over Baltimore's Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. Its 15 broad stripes and 15 bright stars inspired Francis Scott Key to write The Star-Spangled Banner, the song that became the national anthem.

But for more than half the flag's 234-year history, there was no official design - the arrangement and appearance of the stars was up to the maker. And that, says art historian Andrew Graham-Dixon, makes it an artwork in a way other nations' flag are not.

"It's to do with this peculiar fact that they didn't standardise the design, so you could express different things within each flag," he says.

"Generally speaking, a flag is a flag - it's like a number plate or logo, it always stays the same. But in America it didn't, which left room for people to express their creativity or their bile or their sadness."

Until 1912, there was no set design for the Stars and Stripes. And so, hidden in older versions of the flag, its makers laid hints of the country's history and quest for identity.

So what are the hidden messages in these notable flags?

Guerrero gets 8-game ban In Football Match

BERLIN: Peruvian international Paolo Guerrero was suspended for eight games on Monday by the German Football Federation for his brutal foul on the VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper during his side Hamburg's 4-0 home defeat on Saturday.

The DFB's disciplinary commission took the decision after reviewing video images of the incident which reveal the volatile 28-year-old striker -- known as the warrior -- launching himself at goalkeeper Sven Ulreich's knees when he didn't have the ball.

Hamburg have appealed the decision.

"I am very disappointed by the verdict," said Hamburg's Danish sporting director Frank Arnesen.

"I do not excuse the foul but, compared to other fouls, I was not expecting such a heavy punishment."

If the punishment is upheld Guerrero - who has been with the club since 2006 - will only be available for the penultimate Bundesliga match of the season against Mainz which will affect his side's chances of avoiding relegation as they are only five points above it at the moment.

It is not the first time that Guerrero has received a multi-match ban as he was suspended for five games in 2010 for throwing a bottle of water at a supporter who had insulted him.

He also missed several months of the 2009/10 season with a knee injury and while seeking treatment spent longer than expected back in his home country after developing a fear of flying.

Guerrero lost an uncle in a plane crash in 1987 and admitted that he had never been so scared in his life when the return flight from a Europa League match in France in August 2009 was caught up in severe turbulence.

Asia Sports News:Indonesian president concerned by football crisis

Indonesia's president expressed concern Monday over the country's football crisis after the national team was beaten 10-0 by Bahrain, prompting FIFA to launch a probe into possible match-fixing.

Bahrain needed to win last week's match in Manama by nine goals to have any hope of making the last round of the Asian zone qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, while Indonesia had already been eliminated from the tournament.

"I'm deeply concerned over what has happened recently," Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said in a statement published on the presidential website.football scarf manufacturer.

"(The sport authorities) said the team players were not fully prepared, others said the referee was not acting fairly."If we have some objections, we need to channel it through FIFA.

Indonesian football authorities on Friday denied allegations of corruption after the world governing body announced an inquiry into the match.

Indonesia's football association (PSSI) has come under fire in recent years over graft allegations, leadership tussles and most recently a breakaway elite league that prompted threats of sanctions by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Yudhoyono appealed to the country's football authorities to pull together, and said the "Indonesian people will get angry if the national team is banned by FIFA".
